Legal Claims Consultant
Role Overview
We are seeking a full-time Legal Claims Consultant to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the effective, consistent, and timely management of employment-related legal claims. These claims may include, but are not limited to, matters involving the Ministry of Labour (MoL), Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO), Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB), and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
You will be working in Downtown Toronto, off of King and Union station.
Monday – Friday 9-5:30pm
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee legal claims files handled internally, including providing legal advice, drafting documentation, and representing clients before relevant tribunals and boards.
- Coordinate the intake and assessment of all legal claims received from clients.
- Work closely with clients to gather relevant information and ensure claims are managed appropriately and efficiently.
- Support and provide guidance to the HR Advice Team on legal-related inquiries and requests.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel to ensure effective management of claims under their carriage, including demand letters, civil litigation matters, and related proceedings.
- Communicate with Ministry of Labour officers, government agencies, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of claims.
- Track and monitor the progress of all active legal claims using the Company’s internal systems and software.
- Ensure external legal partners adhere to Company reporting standards and budgeting requirements related to legal matters.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Legal Claims Officer, Legal Claims Consultant, or Paralegal role.
- University or college diploma/degree in Law or a related discipline.
- Valid P1 License.
