      Senior Tax Consultant

Remote with approx. 1 days of travel per week
Paying up to 63k base + commission + car allowance OR company car

I’m working with an established tax consultancy business to recruit a Senior Tax Consultant to join its growing team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced tax professional to take on a varied advisory role, supporting accountancy practices of all sizes, from independent firms to larger Top 100 practices. You’ll work on a range of direct tax enquiries, providing technical guidance and practical support to help clients navigate complex HMRC investigations and disputes.

We’re keen to hear from candidates with a background in practice, industry or HMRC who have a strong understanding of direct tax and experience handling HMRC enquiries.

      The Role

You’ll take ownership of a varied caseload involving Income Tax and Corporation Tax enquiries, covering both insured and uninsured cases. Alongside managing cases from start to finish, you’ll provide clear, well-researched advice to accountancy firms and tax agents, helping them resolve challenging tax matters on behalf of their clients.

      Your responsibilities will include:

      • Managing direct tax enquiry cases, from initial review through to resolution with HMRC.
      • Researching complex tax issues and preparing detailed consultancy reports, technical opinions and written advice.
      • Drafting correspondence to HMRC and advising clients on the most appropriate approach to individual cases.
      • Providing technical and strategic support to accountants and tax advisors dealing with HMRC enquiries.
      • Liaising directly with HMRC throughout investigations and working towards effective case outcomes.
      • Attending Alternative Dispute Resolution meetings and coordinating arrangements for tax tribunal hearings. Representation at tribunal may also form part of the role, depending on your experience.
      • Reviewing reports and offering second opinions on complex technical matters.
      • Ensuring cases are handled in line with internal procedures and relevant anti-money laundering requirements.
      • Keeping up to date with changes in direct tax legislation, case law and HMRC practice.

      About You

You’ll have a sound technical understanding of direct tax and the confidence to apply your knowledge to complex and sometimes challenging cases. Just as importantly, you’ll be able to explain technical issues clearly, build effective working relationships and provide advice that clients can put into practice.

      • A strong grounding in Income Tax and/or Corporation Tax.
      • Experience of HMRC enquiry or investigation work, ideally gained in practice or within HMRC.
      • A recognised tax or accountancy qualification, or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through your career.
      • Strong research, report-writing and technical problem-solving skills.
      • The ability to manage your own caseload while contributing positively to a wider team.
