Senior Payroll Manager
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Manager to join their payroll team. This individual will play a key role in overseeing payroll operations, supervising payroll staff, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across the organization.
The successful candidate will bring strong payroll leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support both Canadian and U.S. payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate full-cycle payroll processing to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Supervise, coach, and support payroll team members.
- Establish, maintain, and improve payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure payroll compliance with applicable Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation.
- Investigate and resolve payroll-related inquiries from managers, employees, and government agencies.
- Lead year-end payroll activities, including balancing, reporting, and preparation of required tax documents.
- Support payroll accounting processes and ensure accuracy of payroll-related records.
- Participate in payroll process improvements, system upgrades, and implementation projects.
- Manage employee benefit-related payroll files and related documentation.
- Act as a key point of contact for payroll-related questions, requiring clear and professional communication across the business.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Payroll certification such as PCP, CPM, FPC, or CPP is considered an asset.
- 5+ years of payroll experience in a medium to large organization.
- Experience processing or supporting both Canadian and U.S. payroll is required.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience within payroll is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, year-end processes, and payroll best practices.
- Experience working in a computerized payroll environment.
- Prior involvement in a payroll system implementation or upgrade is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll matters clearly to employees, leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work accurately under tight deadlines.
- Bilingual French/English skills are considered an asset.
