      Portfolio Payroll are currently partnered with a great client within the education sector looking for Senior Payroll & Benefits Administrator

      Responsibilities will include:

      • Review and record PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) applications and other associated expenses.
      • Timely completion of annual Class 1B NICs declaration and payment to HMRC.
      • Manage the entire P11D process, including corresponding with internal departments, validating submissions, and calculating Class 1A NICs.
      • Ensure timely annual declaration and payment of Class 1A NICs to HMRC and recharge these costs internally.
      • Maintain, process, and report the Schedule 23 annual return to HMRC in a timely manner.
      • Provide regular benefits-in-kind data reports to senior management.
      • Review, devise, and implement administrative systems to support the payroll team’s goals.
      • Provide expert payroll and employment tax advice, with specialist knowledge of benefits, expenses, and PAYE legislation, including off-payroll working (IR35).
      • Communicate professionally and confidently with all levels of staff, as well as third parties such as HMRC, NICO, banks, and courts (e.g., Attachment of Earnings Orders).
      • Respond promptly to correspondence from all third-party entities.
      • Stay up-to-date on all relevant legislation, including HMRC guidance on PAYE tax matters and data protection regulations.
      • Prioritize payroll work by category and internal division, including managing new starters, leavers, pensions, NICs, fees, overtime, sickness, parental leave, and salary sacrifice arrangements.
      • Provide guidance and support to junior payroll team members.
      • Hold sole responsibility for reviewing and processing allocated payroll data for monthly deadlines.
      • Manually calculate PAYE tax, NICs, salary advances, and under/overpayments.
      • Input adjustments to the payroll system to ensure accurate records.
      • Demonstrate strong knowledge of salary sacrifice arrangements.
      • Verify that all received data from administrators is complete, accurate, and properly authorized.
      • Calculate and check entitlements for occupational sickness, parental leave schemes, and statutory regulations, and input absence data.
      • Use internal payroll, HR reporting, and financial systems for data input and inquiries.
      • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
      • Embrace a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in daily work.
      • Undertake additional tasks and support colleagues as required.

      Experience required

      • CIPP payroll qualification or equivalent experience.
      • Sound knowledge of UK employment tax and social security legislation.
      • Proven ability to manage and prioritise a varied and busy workload to meet strict deadlines.
      • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
      • Experience of working within a large, busy, and complex payroll team.
      • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently and courteously at all levels.
      • Proficiency in Excel, including creating and maintaining accurate financial records.
      • Experience of handling sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.
      • Experience of the Higher Education sector.
      • Familiarity with PeopleXD, SAP Concur, Oracle Financials R12, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
