The client that I am working with is a long‑established, forward‑thinking chartered accountancy firm based in Chard, seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to join their growing payroll department. This is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys both hands‑on processing and team leadership, and who takes pride in delivering a high‑quality, client‑focused service.
You will oversee a varied portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. Working closely with colleagues across accounts, tax, and administration, you will help maintain the collaborative culture that underpins this firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support, and mentor a small payroll team, ensuring workloads are managed effectively and team members are supported in their development.
- Oversee a diverse portfolio of client payrolls, reviewing work, resolving queries, and ensuring all payrolls are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Step in to process payrolls end‑to‑end when required, including statutory payments, HMRC submissions, and pension auto‑enrolment compliance.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, ensure adherence to legislation, and support continuous improvement across the department.
- Build strong relationships with clients, providing clear guidance, proactive support, and a consistently professional service.
- Work closely with colleagues across the practice to ensure seamless service delivery and a cohesive team environment.
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Client payroll experience within a bureau, accountancy practice, or outsourced payroll environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pension auto‑enrolment.
