About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our growing payroll team within a large, fast-paced construction environment. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this role is responsible for accurate and timely processing of multi-provincial payroll for a diverse workforce, including unionized employees. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and thrives in a high-volume setting.
Key Responsibilities
Process full-cycle, multi-provincial payroll for hourly and salaried employees across various sites and business units.
Ensure compliance with provincial employment standards, collective agreements, and company policies.
Validate timesheets, job codes, premiums, and allowances in alignment with union rules and project requirements.
Prepare and reconcile ROEs, T4s, year-end reporting, and payroll remittances.
Support payroll audits, reporting, and data validations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies; respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Collaborate closely with HR, Finance, Operations, and site administrators to ensure seamless payroll workflow.
Participate in system updates, testing, and process improvement initiatives.
Maintain confidential employee information in compliance with privacy and security standards.
Qualifications
3+ years of payroll experience, ideally in construction or another high-volume, complex environment.
Experience processing union payroll is a strong asset.
Multi-provincial payroll experience required.
PCP certification (completed or in progress) preferred.
Proficiency with any major payroll/HRIS system (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Dayforce, SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.).
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, and collective agreements.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and manage competing priorities.
Intermediate Excel skills.
