      Payroll Advisor

      Department: Human Resources
      Reports to: Senior Manager, Pension & Benefits
      Location: Toronto, Hybrid, 4-days on site

      Overview:
      The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of in-house bi-weekly payrolls in accordance with federal and provincial regulations. This role provides expert support and guidance to managers and staff on payroll-related matters while ensuring compliance and accuracy across all payroll functions.


      Key Responsibilities:

      • Manage day-to-day payroll activities for approximately 700 employees across Canada.

      • Process new hires, employee changes, and terminations; verify timesheets and calculate special payments such as severance and vacation payouts.

      • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll, including importing data files, reconciling entries, generating EFTs, and ensuring accurate G/L uploads.

      • Create and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) for terminations and leaves.

      • Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal statutory requirements (Income Tax, CPP/QPP, EI/QPIP, WSIB, EHT, etc.).

      • Collaborate with HR Systems to maintain and improve payroll system functionality.

      • Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll operations.

      • Assist with year-end reconciliations, T4/Relevé issuance, and filing of all required remittances.

      • Respond promptly and accurately to employee payroll inquiries, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

      • Prepare monthly remittances and WCB premium payments.


      Qualifications:

      • 3-5 years of experience in a computerized payroll environment.

      • Experience with UKG Pro or similar payroll systems an asset.

      • Post-secondary education in Business or related field.

      • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation in progress or completed preferred.

      • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.

      • Experience with automated payroll and HR systems.

      • Knowledge of Quebec payroll regulations considered an asset.
