      Payroll Manager / Payroll Lead

      About the Role

      This position is responsible for overseeing payroll operations and supervising assigned staff to ensure accurate and timely employee payments. The role also supports the development and maintenance of payroll procedures, drives operational efficiency, and contributes to the ongoing training and development of payroll team members.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Coordinate and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency.
      • Develop, maintain, and support payroll policies, procedures, and remuneration plans.
      • Ensure payroll compliance with relevant government legislation and regulatory requirements.
      • Oversee payroll accounting processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and strong internal controls.
      • Investigate and resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues from internal stakeholders and external agencies.
      • Lead annual payroll activities, including year-end balancing and preparation of T4s, T4As, and other required filings.
      • Hire, coach, mentor, and evaluate payroll team members.
      • Manage workers’ compensation files, claims, and related financial administration.
      • Oversee executive benefits administration, including insurance, health spending accounts, and retirement savings plans.
      • Support payroll system improvements, upgrades, and process enhancements as required.

      Qualifications

      • Payroll leadership certification recognized in Canada is preferred.
      • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
      • 10-15 years of payroll experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
      • Experience in a high-volume, computerized payroll environment, ideally supporting 1,000+ employees.
      • Canadian payroll experience is required; exposure to U.S. payroll is considered an asset.
      • Prior involvement in a payroll system implementation or upgrade is highly desirable.

      Skills and Experience

      • Strong understanding of payroll processing, payroll operations, and payroll best practices.
      • Solid understanding of payroll legislation, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
      • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities.
      • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
      • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
      • Knowledge of U.S. payroll practices is considered an advantage.
      • Experience with payroll systems, reporting tools, and process improvement initiatives is preferred.

      Benefits and Compensation

      • Salary range: $120,000-$140,000
      • 3 weeks’ vacation
