      Senior Payroll Specialist

      Location: Downtown Toronto
      Work Model: Hybrid – 2 days on-site per week

      About the Role

      Our client, a well-established organization based in downtown Toronto, is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join their payroll team on an urgent basis. This is a key hire to fill an open seat within a lean payroll function supporting a large employee population.

      The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a high-volume payroll portfolio, working closely with another Payroll Specialist and reporting into the Payroll Manager. This role requires someone who is confident, detail-oriented, and highly skilled in Excel, as the payroll process includes several manual calculations and spreadsheet-based processes.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Process payroll for a portion of a 1,500-employee population, working alongside another Payroll Specialist.
      • Manage payroll-related calculations including absence tracking, benefit deductions, PTO, and other adjustments.
      • Use UKG for payroll processing, while also supporting manual payroll processes.
      • Maintain and update Excel spreadsheets used for payroll calculations and reconciliations.
      • Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with internal policies and legislative requirements.
      • Identify opportunities to improve manual processes and increase payroll efficiency.
      • Partner with the Payroll Manager and internal stakeholders to resolve payroll-related issues.
      • Support audits, reporting, and payroll documentation as required.

      Qualifications

      • Strong experience in payroll processing within a high-volume environment.
      • Advanced Excel skills are required, including comfort working with complex spreadsheets and manual calculations.
      • Experience with UKG is considered an asset but is not required.
      • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Ability to work independently while contributing to a small payroll team.
      • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
      • PCP certification is considered an asset.
