      Payroll & Benefits Specialist

      Salary Range: $75,000 – $92,500

      Position Overview

      Our client is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their Human Resources team in Toronto. This role will be responsible for managing end-to-end semi-monthly, multi-provincial payroll and supporting the administration of benefits and total rewards programs for employees across Canada.

      The successful candidate will bring strong payroll expertise, excellent attention to detail, and experience working with benefits administration, payroll compliance, reporting, and reconciliations.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Manage end-to-end semi-monthly, multi-provincial Canadian payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
      • Process payroll changes including new hires, salary adjustments, retroactive pay, top-ups, terminations, ROEs, and other payroll adjustments.
      • Review payroll outputs and resolve discrepancies prior to final processing.
      • Ensure compliance with applicable payroll legislation and communicate relevant regulatory changes.
      • Prepare payroll reconciliations, reports, and statutory filings, including T4s, Employer Health Tax, T2200s, and other year-end requirements.
      • Ensure accurate and timely remittance of payroll taxes, benefits, pension contributions, and other third-party payments.
      • Support annual audits and budgeting activities in collaboration with Finance and external auditors.
      • Administer employee benefits and total rewards programs, including communication with benefit providers and brokers.
      • Review and reconcile monthly benefit invoices, ensuring employee additions, terminations, and adjustments are accurately reflected.
      • Provide payroll, benefits, compensation, and regulatory reporting and analytics.
      • Support annual compensation statements, spreadsheets, and employee confirmation letters.
      • Respond to employee payroll and benefits inquiries and assist with payroll and benefits system self-service.
      • Support payroll and benefits-related communications, training sessions, webinars, and employee engagement initiatives.
      • Assist with payroll, benefits, HR systems, and process improvement projects.
      • Provide additional support to the HR team as required.

      Qualifications

      • University degree, college diploma, or equivalent relevant experience.
      • 3-5 years of direct payroll and benefits administration experience within a corporate HR environment.
      • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including the Employment Standards Act and other applicable provincial requirements.
      • ADP Workforce Now experience is required.
      • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
      • Strong numerical, analytical, reconciliation, and reporting skills.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer-service mindset.
      • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
      • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation completed or in progress.
      • CHRP designation considered an asset.
      • Experience working with Workday.
      • Previous experience supporting benefits and total rewards programs.
      • Strong process-improvement and systems aptitude.
