Job Description: Temp Bilingual Payroll Specialist (Quebec/Multi-Provincial)

The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly competent and urgent Bilingual Payroll Specialist to manage complex, multi-provincial payroll operations for a 3-6 month contract. In this role, you will be running the full payroll cycle as a standalone lead, supporting a unionized environment of 600-700 employees across Quebec and Ontario.
As the subject matter expert on-site, you will have full ownership of the payroll function, investigating existing system issues and optimizing the Desjardins/Nethris platform to ensure accuracy and compliance. This role is available to start immediately and is fully remote.
Key Responsibilities

Standalone Payroll Management: Independently execute the full-cycle, high-volume payroll for three pay groups this week and seven pay groups next week.

System Ownership & Optimization: Fully manage and investigate current system bottlenecks within Desjardins or Nethris to implement fixes and improve workflows.

Multi-Provincial Compliance: Act as the lead expert for Quebec Payroll Legislation (including unionized environments) and Ontario labor standards.

Process Documentation: Independently draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manage all government remittances to ensure the department is audit-ready.
Required Qualifications

Availability: Must be available to start immediately.

Experience: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated payroll experience, specifically handling Quebec legislation.

Technical Proficiency: Must be able to operate Desjardins or Nethris at an expert level without supervision. Experience with Empress (Time & Attendance) is a major asset.

Languages: Fully Bilingual (English/French) is mandatory.

Expertise: Deep understanding of unionized payroll, multi-provincial tax requirements, and manual data entry workflows.

Autonomy: A proven ability to work as a standalone specialist, as the internal branch requires an expert to resolve current issues and stabilize the function.
