Job Title: Payroll Manager
Location: Mississauga, ON (Onsite – 3 days in office per week)
About the Role:
We are seeking a seasoned Payroll Manager to lead our payroll operations from our Mississauga office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll processing, managing two direct reports, maintaining internal controls, and collaborating across Finance and HR.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee full‑cycle payroll processing for employees – ensuring all payroll runs (salary, hourly, overtime, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, benefits, etc.) are completed accurately and on time.
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of payroll administrators or specialists; delegate tasks, review their work, provide training/coaching, and ensure quality control.
Maintain payroll records and data integrity (new hires, terminations, salary changes, leaves, benefits deductions, etc.) and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
Prepare and review payroll journal entries for general ledger; reconcile payroll accounting, benefit remittances, statutory deductions, and other payroll‑related financial records.
Manage year‑end payroll processes – including preparation of tax slips (e.g. T4s/T4As), statutory reporting, reconciliations, and audits, ensuring compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
Stay current with federal and Ontario payroll legislation, labour standards, and regulatory changes; ensure payroll processes comply with all legal requirements.
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to integrate payroll with benefits administration, time‑tracking/time‑attendance systems, and other HR/Finance systems; support process improvements and system upgrades or migrations.
Act as subject‑matter expert and point-of-contact for payroll‑related inquiries from employees, management and external auditors.
Qualifications:
Several years of progressive payroll experience, ideally including supervisory or management exposure.
Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory deductions (taxes, CPP/EI, benefits, garnishments), compliance, and reporting requirements.
Experience with payroll/HRIS software (e.g. ADP, Dayforce, or similar), and proficiency with Microsoft Excel / Office tools for reconciliations and reporting.
Excellent leadership, supervisory, and team‑management skills; ability to coach and guide payroll staff and enforce quality/control standards.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and attention-to-detail skills. Highly organized, able to manage tight deadlines and multiple payroll cycles. High degree of integrity and professionalism, must maintain confidentiality with employee/compensation data.
