Portfolio Payroll Canada, part of The Portfolio Group and a specialist payroll recruitment agency, has been named an Industry Partner of the National Payroll Institute (NPI). The partnership formalises a relationship that has grown steadily since Portfolio Payroll Canada’s launch in Toronto in April 2023, and reflects a shared commitment to elevating the payroll profession across Canada.
“The National Payroll Institute is pleased to recognize Portfolio Payroll Canada as an Industry Partner. Being an Industry Partner signals to employers and payroll professionals that an organization understands and is contributing to the critical role payroll plays in every workplace and is committed to strengthening the profession. As a recruiter specializing in payroll, Portfolio Payroll Canada does exactly that by advocating for the profession and helping employers understand the added value of hiring designated professionals. In partnership, we are elevating payroll and supporting the Institute’s community of professionals and employers across Canada.”
– Peter Tzanetakis, President and CEO, National Payroll Institute
Since establishing its Canadian office, Portfolio Payroll Canada has worked closely with the National Payroll Institute, which represents over 45,000 payroll professionals across Canada, supporting its mission to champion payroll as a career of choice and to give professionals the recognition their work deserves. The two organisations have already collaborated on events together, including webinars helping candidates sharpen their resumes and prepare for interviews. Becoming an Industry Partner is a natural next step in that relationship, built on aligned values and a track record of collaboration.
That relationship is built on the National Payroll Institute’s four pillars of stakeholder engagement: Collaboration, Support, Participation, and Empowerment. As an Industry Partner, Portfolio Payroll Canada continues to support the institute’s initiatives, sharing its own expertise with the payroll community, and taking part in events. Portfolio Payroll Canada are in a privileged position introduce candidates in their network to the National Payroll Institute and its payroll designations as a regular part of their career conversations to support in nurturing careers that are built on recognised, industry-standard training as well as the right role.
This year, Portfolio Payroll Canada is proud to take on the role of Gold Sponsor for National Payroll Week, which runs from 14 to 20 September 2026 under the theme of Milestones. The theme recognises the part payroll professionals play in helping Canadians reach life’s meaningful moments, from buying a first home to planning for retirement, and it resonates closely with Portfolio Payroll Canada’s own journey. Becoming an Industry Partner is a milestone in its own right: formal recognition of the expertise, network, and support Portfolio Payroll Canada has brought to the profession, and a platform to do more of it.
As part of its ongoing support for the industry, Portfolio Payroll Canada has produced the Canada Payroll Salary Guide, drawing on the National Payroll Institute’s network to give professionals and employers a clear, current picture of payroll salaries and hiring trends across the country. This year’s guide was launched at a conference in Montreal, and for the first time was published in both English and French, a step taken to make sure the guide speaks to payroll professionals right across Canada. That bilingual milestone was made possible with support from the National Payroll Institute, whose research and guidance into the Quebec market helped shape the guide’s coverage of the province.
“Becoming an Industry Partner of the National Payroll Institute is a genuine milestone for us. Since we launched in Toronto in 2023, we’ve worked hard to earn the trust of the payroll community here, and this partnership is recognition of that work. We look forward to continuing to support payroll professionals as they build their careers, and to championing the profession alongside the Institute,”
– Joe Middleton, Associate Director at Portfolio Payroll Canada
The partnership will see Portfolio Payroll continue to work alongside the National Payroll Institute on initiatives that support payroll professionals throughout their careers, from entry-level roles through to leadership positions, while helping to raise the profile of payroll as a critical business function.
