      Payroll Coordinator

      The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for both unionized and non‑unionized employees.

      Key Duties & Responsibilities

      Payroll Support

      • Process payroll for union and non‑union employees according to established schedules.

      • Review and interpret collective agreements to ensure accurate application of pay elements and schedules for unionized employees.

      • Review internal policies and documentation to ensure accurate application of pay elements for non‑union employees.

      • Accurately process all payroll components, including employee pay, deductions, and remittances.

      • Perform payroll‑related calculations, including deductions and remittances.

      • Conduct audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance.

      • Support the identification and implementation of payroll process or system improvements.

      • Process timesheets and employee expense submissions.

      • Coordinate with People & Culture/HR regarding payroll‑related changes (e.g., new hires, terminations, leaves).

      • Update payroll data to reflect salary or wage adjustments.

      • Process payments to third‑party vendors and update employee information with internal and external stakeholders.

      • Prepare payroll reports for management as required.

      • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and related matters.

      • Support annual year‑end activities such as T4 preparation and pay adjustments.

      • Perform other related duties as assigned.

      Knowledge & Skills

      • Knowledge of Canadian payroll rules and regulations.

      • Community college diploma or equivalent training (e.g., RPA, CET).

      • 1-3 years of relevant payroll experience.

      • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

      • Ability to follow established procedures and administer payroll processes effectively.

      • Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve payroll, retirement, and benefits‑related issues.

      • Strong mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

      • Ability to manage high volumes of data with precision.

      • Strong communication skills for data exchange, clarification, and issue resolution.

      • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.

      • Proficiency with payroll systems (experience with ORC/HCM considered an asset).

      • Proficiency in MS Excel and Outlook, with the ability to learn new applications quickly.

      Licenses & Professional Accreditation (Assets)

      • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or working toward certification.

      • Canadian Employee Benefits Certification or equivalent.
